Hey guys, Im Tommy, from the north west of Ireland and work in a steel fabricators, have done for 6 years, quite a competent MIG welder and can stick weld to a pretty good standard, started out as a laborer but do a fair bit of welding now as well as being a dogs body , mostly MIG and mostly making farm gates and agricultural work, never done an apprenticeship or any form of training bar just picking up the welder and getting taught by the lads i work with as i went!! Would love to learn to TIG weld as i love the quality of welding it can achieve, hopefully be heading for Oz next year so this is the trade i hope to travel on!! Look forward to learning and giving any help i can!

welcome to the forum Tommy sounds a great way of travelling around oz, we have a few members on here from both ireland and oz you should make a point of popping in for a cuppa when your down under

Im a bit worried about that myself but seeing as it's only a matter of completing a coding im sure theres a way around it!! Also having the time served will work in my favor im sure!!

If you can get a working visa you dont need trade tickets, you might not get paid quite as much as someone with a ticket but you`ll get work. Some people say work is hard to find but if your willing to door knock you`ll find it.If you were qualified over there you would have to re-quality over here anyway. Like Stuvy said theres always a cold beer or a cuppa here when your in Aus.

Hi Tommy, my daughter lives in perth western ozz & she says there's loads of work in that area,might be worth investigating.

Rates approx $35 AUD, about £22 an hour, sounds a rate rate to me

Ya i have googled it alright and found over 200 ads for welders on one site

I have a mate who just moved to perth and he seems to be working away, although not really in any high paying jobs, think he's trying to get into the mines for a while! He has done his regional work though so at least he has that out of the way!!
