Help, quick motor wiring help

Just a quickie, I've been servicing the wood lathe I bought a while back and as I removed the motor from the pivot the wire fell out of the junction box.

The terminals must have been loose as the wires just fell out, not snapped.

So I am left with three terminals marked 'E', 'A' and 'Z', 'E' is obviously the earth connection but which of the other two are live and neutral?

Firstly I'd physically check that E is connected to the frame, then the mains can be connected to the other two, for practical purposes it doesn't matter which way round.

Sorry to sound thick but will the way the live and neutral are connected affect the direction of rotation at all?

no its ac current only dc would make a diffrence

Not on a DC motor unless permanent magnet or field OR armature are reversed, not both.
