Miller mate, It would be very handy for me as my TIG leads are 30ft long but my pedal isn't and i have to keep plugging in a ext lead.

.... Any ho Why not get one of yer kids to operate there remote toy/car near where you are tigging and see if there toy goes nuts or not. If not now you know where to get the bits for your remote pedal

Here is a link to a video using the wireless pedal, I know they are pricey, but the list price for a normal pedal for my Lorch T220 is around £450-00

The makers of my TIG set wanted £125 for the same sort of box with the same sort of pot.
I used a guitar volume pedal (£12 off the 'Bay) and some creativity for the on/off switch.

I have opened couple up and as we know, Potentiometer operated by small plastic rack and pinion etc, and a micro-switch is all you will find in there!!!
Lorch are great machines but their pedals are like most other manufacturers and are an EXTRA on top of the machine price.

so all you need is a nice big servo on a hacked about standard pedal and a potentiometer like you fund in normal decent R/c remotes beefed up and put into a pedal
I've got the Lorch withn the Lorch pedal, It looks well built but it needs stripping down and rebuild every couple of motnhs because all the screws come loose and it also gets an annoying squeek. If welding as a hoby a home made pedal would be ok. But in a workshop environment i'd just buy a commercially built pedal. To make a home made one as good as the "bought" ones you'd have to spend a lot on making it and reliability is most important IMO. Theres nothing more annoying than tools going wrong.

The servo and potentiometer would have to be in the bit that plugs into the machine or it wouldn't be remote. It wouldn't need to be big, a stepper motor from a printer might do the job.
