spraying temperature

I have only an unheated garage to work in and I'm using cellulose. Is there any point continuing for now until the weather warms up. I was talking to a paint supplier who said to wait until it gets above 15º but it rarely gets that hot in my garage. Can I for instance spray primer successfully right now?

What if I take panels, paint and thinners indoors overnight to warm up. Would this help?

Doubt it would help, the temp would drop when you brought them back, also the drying temp is the same, I sprayed a few items yesterday and they all bloomed, only brackets so not too bothered

Not sure how low the anti bloom additive works, can remember we used to use it for cars, a few drops in each spray gun, should not imagine it will work when temp is near freezing though.

I wafted the hot air gun over a mudguard the other day then primed it just using an aerosol high build with no problems. I was just fed up of seeing it in 5 colours with filler patches so it was not an aesthetic exercise and the primer looks fine so I wouldn't worry too much if it's just priming you want to do. It will get rubbed down and done again when things brighten up.

Stupid question while on spraying temp.

Is 2k effected by cold temp just like Celly?

doesnt bloom like celly ...but you need reasonble temps to use it

trouble is when its cold the panels can almost get a film over them like condensation , no doubt you can spray the car but will it all blister and peel off later

You could hire a gas heating blower for the garage and metal to warm up, but not too hot either.

What does blooming look like or what is it exactly ?

As for temp i would treat 20 as a minimum, especially with celly

Its not the paint that needs to be warm but the panels your painting, low temp is a sure case for runs.

You could get yourself some of the infra red electric heaters that the pro shops use to speed drying times.

If the panel was a bike panel/fairing/fiberglass can you leave the panels in the house overnight to warm, take out to the shed & spray then after a while bring them back into the house in a sealed off room?

Been to cold to fiberglass lately so had to seal of a room in the house and do my glass work, need to get the fairings sprayed soon though.

Thread revival due to a Google search!


I have some panels to do soon and I am concerned about temperature. I have a workshop that is centrally heated, but I like to spray with the doors open. I will be using Lechler Epoxy followed by 2K solid. Temperature inside is currently about 14C and I am starting to think that I may have to farm the work out.

Infrared heaters pointed at the panels will keep them warm while you have the doors open

alot of it is panel temp , so yeah if you have something to warm the panels with and keep them warm between coats you might be okay

Micro blistering is caused by spraying in damp/humid conditions(trapped moisture) so unless you can warm the panels and keep them warm throughout the paint job then I wouldn't bother, as you will end up with the same mess you have now.
