interesting a guy at college was building a model aero engine on a watchmakers lathe .the parts were so small u needed a magifying glass to see them especialy the crankpin

There were plug leads on the inside face of the head so it was a fuel engine.
Both of these are signs of craftmanship of the highest order, i could only wish i had half that talent

OK, sorry mate i thought you were talking about the second vid but the first vid def looks like its an air drive, all the same its bloody great engineering

If it's air drive, was it designed as such? You'd have to make the camshaft so there was no compression stroke.

They showed the machining of the cams but its hard to tell whether he has done it as a dummy to just drive the inlet and exhaust valves or if he has set it up for the full suck squeeze bang blow cycle

it must be for show as there was no facility for cam timing on the crank driven gears...what a master piece that little gem is

There must be some valve action, otherwise it wouldn't run.

There are timing marks on the cam gears.

i think you will find there is

We have to remember we have two different engines here, the first looks like its been designed to run on compressed air, while the second actually looks like its a four stroke engine with plugs and distrubutor (rear of engine right hand side when looked at from the from the front)

I made a single cylinder version of this one ^ (the on in the vid was made by my tutor)
Its a reciprocating valve 2 stroke engine powered by compressed air about 120psi.
Was a fun project, got mine to rev to about 3000rpm.
Still nothing like the original video posted on this thread!
