Help with SIP Migmate 150

Hey there,
Had some trouble recently with my migmate 150.
Started with the wire feed motor giving up (burnt out)
Bought replacement and fitted it,
Fed wire back through, got snagged in the torch so I took that apart to help the wire through. Put torch back together and all was working, wire feedind well.
Went back to garage to test it and was welding fine for about 5min untill smoke started coming from the torch (trigger).
Then It wouldnt stop feeding wire! untill i switched the machine off.
Now evertime I stitch it on it feeds out wire without me pressing the trigger.
Took trigger apart and put it back together properly and with more care but it hasent solved the problem!

Nick If the tourch switch normaly works by grounding the signal wire when the trigger is pressed and you have a short in the tourch/lead back to welder Then the welder will see this as though you are pressing the trigger. If you remove the tourch assembly at the welder end (if it's a euro type). Then switch on welder. If it now does not feed by it's self then fault should be in tourch. If it does feed then fault is within welder. If so check when you fitted motor that you have fitted any insulator between the motor/feed roller and the frame of the welder. Because the power to the welding wire is feed through the feed rollers (and motor) it must be isolated from the frame of the welder. Could this be the start of the problem?

The motor came as a complete unit with the gearbox, rollers ect.
So I doubt it would be that, will check tomorow, cheers!

my guess is that your wiring may have burnt anywhere from the welder to the torch shorting out. the reason you got smoke from the torch would also be down to a problem with the wiring it will be the thin wire causing the smoke at a guess

There is a good photo of how the torch goes together in the tutorials about liners IIRC.

The switch is just the bit of spring metal that presses against the gas valve block. 'sppose you could have got that wrong or bent and its making permanent contact

if its got to the point that there has been enough juce through to let the smoke out then the insulation on the wire will be less than effective - its just a bit of blue wire with a 1/4" lucar on the end should be an easy fix.

the "works for 5 mins" bit may be the plastic from the liner being dragged in to the swan neck liner, melting and effectively becoming a "hot glue gun". Steel liner and a new one for the swan neck will make a huge difference if you haven't already done so.

Managed to work out the problem.
Traced the 2 trigger wires back and into the welder where I found that one of them was worn to bare wire and touching the metal of the smaller transformer.
Taped it up and re routed the wireing making it look allot neater in there!

Hi all
I am new to welding and have a problem with my MigMate Turbo 150.
I have been trying to weld two strips of metal, about 3mm thick. When I start welding, the wire burns 'red hot' back along its entire length from the welding point tip back to the swan neck torch nozzle, causing the wire to jam in the nozzle. Tried alterning the settings but to no good effect. I am wondering if there is a part missing from the nozzle. Can anyone suggest where I might find an exploded parts diagram to identify whether or not I am missing a part from the swan neck nozzle?

there should be the tip, the swan neck with a small steel liner in it and then the swan neck attached to the brass block.
if you wire is melting back to the brass block then the power cant be reaching the tip the wire must be getting power in the brass block only.
take the wire out and test the tip for voltage with a meter
