Always worth checking what........... FUSE.... is fitted before testing even if it was discribed as "fro spares or repair" I recon 6mm bolt cut down about 200amp slooooooooow blow. Well previous owner fried the transformer. But surley the fuse should have blown Winter project strip and rewind transformer maybe....we will see.

even with said 6mm bolt the machine would have been fused through the ring main at 30 amps still not good mind whats the rating of the welder ?

Probably had an old re-wirable CU fitted with 10mm (30A) bolts!

it dont beat a callout i did rented house guy put a light up and wired it wrong and wrapped 15 amp fuse wire round the fuse holder 4 times making it 60 amp in stead of 5 amp it burned all the lighting circuit wiring out blew the fusebox main switch up and took the electricity board cutout fuse out guy said have i done much damage .i didnt have the heart to tell him about 400 quids worth

Well it WAS 25 to 160Amp. It's not now. May look out for a mig with a stuffed pcb maybe

I had an old oil cooled welder with the same fuse as that I swapped it for a 13 amp fuse and when that blew I soldered a 30 amp wire across it, it was on a 40 amp ring so my theory was good and it never went again.

cant see that been cheap they know how to charge for the copper wire.
if you decide to do it make sure you count the turns as you take them off as it will need the same amount of turns back on to get the same spec
