Philips PZ5805/30

I have been offered one of these units to use to weld my Land Rover chassis, but I have tried to find info on the unit and can find nothing!

Does anyone have any info on it?

Hi, welcome to the forum, post a picture of it if you can, it may be a generic machine that some one recognises.

As per request here it is. Stands about 4ft tall.

that looks a big old beast! can you get a better photo of the Data plate above the grill that will shed more light on the job! if it works i bet it will be a good unit but chances of finding spares are low

According to the current owner and the last user (approx 6-8months ago) it worked a treat on all his agri tools. Pic of data panel to follow ...

that's a big output! unless it goes lower (about 100A ish) you will struggle to weld the chassis as there only 2mm (before rusting) also consider it might be 400V single phase or 3ph but even if it does 230V single phase the current draw is going to be high

I had some Phillips gear moons ago, very sound sets but equally long in the tooth, spares could be an issue or non existent, and if its running the quirky Philip's wire drive system (rather than a set of standard rollers) Id avoid, iirc Colet's were always an issue with it....

transformers and contractors were some of the best on the market at the time, Id guess that set is some ware in the late 70s, early 80s....

It's a 3phase unit and I have yet to fire it up and test ... awaiting some gas for a trial. Thanks for the info so far ... I'll let you know when I have tested it.

So from that info I guess it maybe an old beast but assuming it all works it should be more than capable ... but if she goes wrong parts might be a headache to find!

Well, it's free and if it stops working I'll buy something a little newer and smaller

Can you use that?
