Hi all,
This is my first time posting on the forum, i have started a new project restoring my discovery. I have never done any thing of this scale before in fact at all, and there is alot of body work to be repaired. any info i have i got on this site so a big thanks to all for posting.The only advice i can get is from my friend is (not to do it) i would be greatful for any advice or info you can give me.

I will post more pictures as i do the work.

I wish T coat would do!!, im back to the frame now and have alot of rust. I will need to replace some parts of panels but dont know what type of sheet metal to get, i think it's 16 gauge or 1.2mm. If some one could let me know it would be great.

we used 1.2 when we did mates cos we had 3 sheets lying round at work that boss let us have.
got one sat outside at moment thats getting stripped next week for off-roader project.
shame youre so far away or you could have had rummage through bits coming off it.

I use 0.9 and 1.2mm. Its worth having both to hand then you can
try to match the area your repairing for thickness.

The 0.9 also forms and beats well if your repairing exterior panels. Chassis and inner wing strength area is where I find 1.2mm is handy

I used 1.2mm on mine. I bought a big sheet of it and did the boot floor, sills, floor pans and rear arches.

Good luck with the project. Make sure you buy your cutting discs in bulk

kin'ell at least Land Rovers only rot the chassis and bulkheads*






*yeah I know the panels rot but at least they are riveted/bolted on

What part of the counrty are you in Sean?

I'm doing / nearly finished one at the min if you need to see how to do things etc - I broke a disco for parts as well. There's lots of folks about with spare vehicles for spares.

Hi Steve i'm in Co, Mayo. it's good to know someone else is in the same boat as me, all be it a bit farther on. Iv made a start on patching the panels on the frame and can only get to it one evening a week. So its going to take a long time. I would love to know how much work you went to, did you rebuild the engine and how did you get over the aluminium corrosion and so on.
I will drop you a line for advice in the future if thats ok

Got it don't know how and don't care
I haven't had much time at it for the last six months but all gun going now. I finish the last of the welding on the body to night and will put a coat of stone chip on tomorrow. The chassie will need a bit of work to so i will make a start on it next week.

YRM do a good selection of panels for the more difficult areas of the body....
