Arc welder help

as I keep getting asked to do heavier work I am concidering obtaining an arc welder to do it with ( as I dont want to use the tig as a power source expesive for an arc welder & dont want to risk kiling it )....6mm+ thickness... max 12-15mm I would guess, except then you get asked about..(we wont even go there LOL)

So what do I really need in way of current? 160,185,200A?

probably an old oil or wirewound job, but any cheap(ish... not bargain basement) alternatives?

a good oxford or a pickhill oil cooled 180 amp could be picked up from around £ 90 to £150.00 just test it 1st to make sure its ok

I agree totally, once had a Pickhill and was a great machine, regret selling it, don't plan to lift it anywhere though..they weigh a ton.

That will do. You could probably do 3.2mm rods on it on a 20A circuit.

20 amp no bother running at 180 amp

well someone lent me a maxarc set....

just had a little play on some "new" steel.... no cleaning tho, 2.5mm 6013

not bad concidering i have not used stick for about 10 years, I have a list of "faults", but please comment as appropriate

first simple fillet 10 & 6mm and a butt joint
couple of short runs & section

bent bar rather than welds when trying a simple bend in the vice....

dont know if your still after a good arc but i have a 200 amp cambridge oil cooled..perfect order and on a frame with little wheels. Ime near Chester
