Here is a pic of my makeshift hammer handle that seems to be more sturdy than the original, it's made up of a peice tube, a bolt and offcut of threaded bar.
I noticed that at the join of the bolt and threaded bar after welding there is a yellow powder substance around the welded area. Does anybody know why this is?

or the bar had a coating similar to galvo, probably not the best of fumes to breath in either.
its not exactly an estwing balanced hammer .wonder who designed that head its all wrong
