My New Butters

Having been a welder for years, I always could do foreigners (homers) . Now I'm not welding for a job, I had to buy a new machine to do all those projects in the garage & weld my ever aging Transit Campervan.
Not wanting to waste money on rubbish I bought a 180mig welder made by Butters-Uk from a distributor in Bristol. I have over 20 years welding experience and have to say this is one of the best welders I have used, lovely arc characteristics easy to set up & use.
The quality is first class with a euro fitting, 40watt motor, and industrial drive roll with two wire sizes on it. For anyone looking for a good mig machine I would recommend you look at their website which is buttersuk.co.uk. They do from 180 amp up to 600a mig machines and are built here in the Uk so no rice and chopsticks in these machines.
Just thought it might be of interest if your looking for a new machine oh and they have no connection to that AMT bunch that were around so I am informed.

Welcome to the forum Mick,i've seen the butters range before and they do look robust any ideas on the prices?red and orange?.....think you are one of the first to review there products ,some pics of the machine and welds would be nice for those looking to buy a welder

I too have a Butters UK 180 amp MIG. It's Weld Wizard and it's red. I love it. It goes all day, smooth as you like and when you look inside, it looks like it was put together by a real person. Probably called Malcolm or Ken.

I have had a couple of problems - the drive motor started to squeal, but the distributor took it back immediately and swapped the motor under warranty. Recently I have had one or two sparks from the wire after releasing the trigger. Something to do with smoothing capacitors or whatever. Same response, bring it back and we'll sort it. I have only ever had this one MIG but I think that it's been largely responsible for the quality of my welding in the couple of years since taking up the art. I see so many people on here struggling to lay their first bead with 'cheap' machines. I remember posting my first MIG efforts and actually being called a liar! Spend more than you can afford. That's my advice, it'll pay you back.

You will have to budget in, for a torch & reg.

Most parts are sourced in the UK, other parts come from Germany, Switzerland & Italy.

First welder we bought was a single phase Butters, real good trouble free for 5 years in garage environment, we prepared a lot of rally car shells.
Changed it for a Esab 3 phase another nice machine.
