Afternoon all!
Has anyone used www.shop4steel.com Just wondered as my local decent steel supplier is 25miles + away and thought i might give them a try one day.

Yep, I've used them once, no problems with them. They are however just middle men, so do check the delivery costs to you as it'll depend which steel supplier they have a contract with in your area. My steel ended up coming from a place in Northampton (I'm near Peterborough) but delivery cost wasn't bad. Certainly easier than me dealinng with a few 7m lengths of 50x25 rhs from my local place in P'boro anyway.

I just priced some erw 1" box section on shop 4 steel,the materials were about £26 + vat.........but £125 delivery kinda put me off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Id heard that they can be pricey,i didnt think parker delivered this far north? i always thought they were southern england only...i might have a look at their site later.

Unfortunately not hitch,ive visited most of the south west on hols over the years,but im about 25 miles south of Edinburgh (originally from south east london tho),ive got lothian steel that will deliver anything £25 or there are also ASD,Brown & Clegg and Blake group in edinburgh,but not alot in the Borders unfortunately

I used to use Parkers when i lived down south and always found them to be good pricewise.

Do Brown and Glegg not deliver down your way Joe? It's £14 here in Embra. Mind you, I 'spose they need armed outriders if they send the truck down to the lawless wastes of Innerleithen (or am I thinking of Walkerburn? )

btw, did yo go to Traquair Fair? It was peeing down that w/e, I recall.

We've got ASD Anderson Brown in Edinburgh, but their prices are really scary if you're on a cash account or a low weight account user. There are much cheaper alternatives for the little fella.

I phoned up asd the other day, and they were quoting about £650 a tonne + vat, which is similar to the price they charge my mate. And he's their distributor in north east kent

I get mine from a small local supplier, I am paying about £750 a tonne + vat

Brown & Clegg do come down this way i think,not sure on delivery prices tho...and you're right Si its walkerburn that you drive through with your windows up and armed guards!!

I didnt go to the fair,and yes it was peeing down that wkd for a change!

I used them earlier this year.

Wasnt impressed by their delivery - I paid for and expected next day but they didnt show up.
Then they didnt answer the phone, or my emails or ring me back when i left a message that evening or the next day.

Stuff then turned up at about 8 am after 3 working days I think. I placed the order on wednesday IIRC, and it finally came on monday.

I was just about to give up on them and re-order the metal from elsewhere, and then refuse the delivery/ring the credit card people up and refute it (i was literally going to reorder it from elsewhere the morning that the truck turned up!)

I didnt notice this second page when i pressed reply..

Though looking at their prices they are a lot cheaper than parker (about 1/4 of the price for 25mmx3mm angle!) so i might be tempted to use them again but will get it delivered next door or order when i have a few days off following on.
