Headlight bulbs

Im sure there are a few car enthusiasts on here could help with this question;

Any recommendations on headlight bulbs, specifically H7 style?

Ive heard good reports about Osram Nightbreakers but any other recommendations?

Ive also considered an HID kit as well but not exactly legal on my car, Peugeot 306 with clear lenses. Any thoughts?

Can't remember what i fitted to my mk1 golf ?....i do remember checking the volts at the bulb with the car running was less than 11volts ,common problem on early golfs,installed relays to get more voltage made a huge difference,not sure if Pugs have a restrictive wiring loom but worth checking

Any chance you could explain how to add the relay in?

I think there is a walkthrough ,i'll take a look and post it here ,basically you use the original live feed to the bulb to switch the relay ,and run a larger(less resistive )wire from the battery to the relay and on to the bulb ....so the original loom switches the larger wire through the relay ...the larger (fused)wire now should put over 13+volts to the bulb depending on the alternator

I installed HID on my car, and swap to halogens for MOT time. Been like that for 5 years now with no problems and only takes minutes to change back.

i use 100w mainbeam and 80w dipped every van ive had i change them there ilegal but have u ever seen a copper take one out and check the wattage

Landy lights are terrible. I have halogens now, but the old sealed units were even worse.

I must get round to adding the relay and power feed as I get <12V at the bulb.

i did that mainly to take the current off the old switches as its a militry switch and there known for going funny

For a change there is a very good reason for these regulations namely so as to lessen dazzle to other road usesrs. The standard lamps fitted are more than adequate given correct maintenance and cleaning.

One road user who's fed up of being dazzled.

I have a pair of RING headlamp bulbs 140w main beam, cant remember low beam size, Like Brightspark, I used to swap them from car to car, now they are just on the shelf as my Land Cruiser has a really good main beam as standard,

They're not you know. If they were there wouldn't be such a huge market for aftermarket bulbs and lights.
Some cars leave the factory with fantastic headlights. My kangoo's are valeo branded cibies and without doubt are the best I have ever driven with. I owned a 92 bmw whose lights were so poor on a country road that I couldn't drive faster than 75kph for fear of outrunning the lights. Automakers fit lights for form rather than function these days, hence the rush for brighter bulbs when you're stuck with a weak set.

i can asure u i dont dazzle anyone. all my vans have had adjustable electric tilt and i have mine on lowest setting unless im night driving out of town . your obviously on about morons with defective lights and not set correctly
