Fish eyes?

As the compressor warms up, oil ( or something) travels up the hose and gets sprayed out with the paint, ruining the paint finish with fish eyes. This may seem a daft question to those who know, but how can I prevent this happening.
Presumably the compressor is on it's way out, and it would seem an unnecessary expence to replace it as the job is nearly done, so looking for a cheap fix if possible.

fit a filter regulator near the end of the hose the lines will carry hot moist air down them and condense and spoil the work

Nice P5 there. As BS suggests a filter regulator is probably a good option for trapping whatever is in there. It might just be water. Some thoughts on here: http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/air-system.htm

Thanks, I have a pressure regulator and water seperator fitted up by the gun, guess an oil seperator is the answer.

It might not be the compressor at all, you are probably just assuming that the compressor is the cause, it is more likely to be silicones on the surface you are spraying, they look like a dimple and right in the middle is a tiny ball of silicone, silicones are used in spray polishes, WD40, car wax etc.
I know Porsche do a silicone remover liquid and you used to be able to get anti-silicone drops to put in paint before you spray it.
Flatting existing bodywork, washing with hot soapy water etc will not remove them(silicones), you have to use one of the suggestions above.

Thats very interesting as these fish eyes keep occuring in the roughly the same place and have prepped the area several times. Ive tried placing a drop of paint directly onto them with a tiny brush and allow to dry, then sraping away the excess with a stanley blade and polishing to a reasonable effect, but not perfect. A lot of work!

what ive done in the past is fill the fish eyes with a blob that sits proud

let it dry and try to 1200/1500 and polish it , if that fails at least it should be flat for another coat of paint

what you describe is most definatly silicone contamination and not oil from the compressor and it can be hard to get rid of, a good dose of washing up liquid when wet flatting should help. but not guaranteed

At the very worst, you might have to take the fish eyed areas back to bare metal in order to remove all the sillicone.

I'm wondering if the temperature was too cold when spraying and the solvent was taking to long to evaporate and soaking into the layer below were the silicon is. Spraying in the garage with only a small fan heater may not have been the ideal situation so being the weather has been cold lately, so Iv'e decided to alow the paint to harden thouroughly, prep and try again when the temperature rises. Roll on spring

A good wash with washing up liquid was what ive been told to do to get rid of any silicone on the surface.
