What's The Best Mig Wire For Sheet Metal?

Hi Guys

I'll be doing some mig welding (not yet till i hear from you guys)

I have a classic Mustang and need to replace a number of patch panels on the car.

QUESTION(S)

What's the best mig wire I can use for my applicaiton. Of course I'll be using ARGON/Co2 mix with wire.

Also if you will, what's the deal on buying a new bottle as oppose to a use bottle of gas from lets say; AIRGAS or E-BAY

Wire, id go for a standard 0.6mm or 0.23"
Its easier to burn in on thinner metal like bodywork.
I cant help on the gas much as i know nothing of the way your dealers work or prices. (as this is a uk site)

I'm glad you posted on the forum as I'm rubbish at replying to emails (already your mail is buried). I'm much better at the forum, and there are others here who will help (and will provide more sensible alternatives to my suggestions too).

I wasn't sure it you were asking about the material of the wire - I've only found "mild steel" wire on offer for that sort of thing. I'd agree with hitachimad on 0.6mm wire (the thinnest one).

The '66 Mustang sounds like a lot of fun. Have you got any photos of the torque boxes? I think they might be called something different over here.

I found a mig wire that I can use on car sheet metal 28gauge to 3/16th's.

If I was living in the USA, I would use Lincoln Electrics Super Arc L-56 wire, 0,6mm, together with good ol´ C25 gas.

Sorry I haven't ans. you post earlier been terrible busy with my rusty floor pan car. Needs lots of but I'm just about ready to start practicing my mig welding before I attempt to weld my new patch sheetmetal panel in.

Finally got to buy the correct mig wire to weld sheetmetal: .024 wire.

About me posting my pics ( And boy do I have pictures) However dore it!
I don't know how the heck to post pictures damn

Guess I got put my nose to the grinder and study more about posting pics.

easiest way to post pics is to click on the go advanced, where you reply to a post, then scroll down. There should be a neat little button there that says add photographs, click on it. This should open a little window, with a couple of options. upload from your comp or upload from a url. click the button that says browse, next to where it say upload from your comp, find your pic and thne click upload. repeat as needed. This should allow several photos to be up loaded into a post.

See pics posted from other users who have taken advice from the forum and show before and after advice, with the later pics looking like nice quality professional welds is always a really nice thing to see.
And its always great to see what people are working on and how its shaping up, restoration on cars is no easy project, very much a labour of love.
