Just filled up
Unleaded is now £1.35/L diesel £1.42/L up 3p from yesterday [latest excuse, apparently from oil suppliers = "its the japan earthquake stoping supplies" (japan has no oil) last weeks was "its Libya" ]

A mate of mine who is in tankers, said last July that, the oil companies were going to hike the prises big time, as every tanker that would float was being contracted not for single trips but for 12mths (as floating tank farms).

Wish I'd got a few 1000s L in @ last years prices

Japan is pushing prices down not up, there one of largest buyers of oil, so sales will be at an all time low....

The barrel price has been on a rise since Christmas long before Libya, and Red hit an all time high at 74ppl, yesterdays price was just under 67ppl....

Mostly the high oil prices are down to two things, demand and the stock market...., cost of production has also increased and new greener initiatives have also had a knock on, theres no simple one factor....

High oil prices affect industry far more than the end consumer so EXPECT all products to increase in cost....

OPEC can quite happily ignore the west, they have new ready markets in the middle east, so I'm afraid get used to the price or buy a pushbike....

Using Supreme/excillium/vpower at £1.34ish at the moment, read an online article a few days ago somewhere to ecpect £2 per L by end of 2012 if not 2011 !!

That's about the same here! 1,33 euro for diesel (1,15 £)

Being a sad old git I log all my fuel usage and have seen a steady increase over the last few months from 12.46p to 18.27p per mile, about 30% increase

The excuses the news gives for the price rises are always amusing. The real reason for the sudden price rise in my opinion is that the economy is in recession so there's no fast money to be made by investing in old fashioned things like businesses. Instead speculators are going after commodities such as oil and food for their fast buck.

Speculators by nature like to create asset price bubbles. Really fast money when you can buy stuff and sell it on again a short time later for much more money. Even faster when you don't have to actually buy the stuff, just promise to buy it (futures and the like).

It's not socially responsible. Asset bubbles are what got us into this recession in the first place. For me it's a big annoyance, for people in countries where they spend most of their money on food, speculators become murders when they double food prices.

In the past if you read history this is the sort of thing that puts an end to civilisations. It astonishes me that nothing is being done about it.

Nothing gets done about it because the legislators are in league with or are the perpetrators. Coincidence that there are 18 millionaires in the government + lots more in Westminster, bankers get bonuses - we get stuffed.

don't think it will be the end of civilization but it could cause the double dip there gambling withe hedge funds and some one is going to loose and loose big its a game of who can keep there hand in the fire the longest in the end ever one gets burned

Back in the late 60's, when snowmobiles were starting to be introduced to the masses, the Eskimos living in the high arctic regions of Canada had traditionally hunted by dog sled. The Canadian government bought skidoo's (back then they were all called that) for a selected few and told them to try them in place of the dogs. Now in the interest of keeping this post short, when the gas(petrol) ran out in the skidoo's, or they developed a mechanical fault, the Eskimo's had to walk home. This really ****** them off. Sometimes they were a hundred miles from home in conditions I cannot begin to describe to fellow members of this forum, suffice to say Bear Gryls would last maybe 6 hours.

Most of them made it home. They said they wanted the dogs back. They coudn't eat the skidoo when it broke down.
