Hello, dear friends,

I have been on this forum for some time and I have read many great threads, I am sad to see some users were critising on "made in China". Indeed, there are some factories producing poor quality products in order to sell a cheaper price and win the market, athough this is a mistake. I hope you can also see this does not mean all the "made in China" products are poor.

Hi Richie, Welcome to the forum. Yes, I can see how that might appear from your perspective. There was a thread on here once acknowledging that China does also produce high quality products but it was a while ago and I would struggle to find it. I guess the problem lies with the people who import the stuff to the UK in that they choose to import mainly the very cheap low quality products. Then again, ultimately the problem lies with the people who buy it for next to nothing and then complain when it fails to work properly (but there are also people on here who have reported buying really cheap Chinese made products which turn out to function perfectly for many years).

Not a mistake, richied. A business strategy that works extremely well; sell cheap, get established, eliminate the competition & then up the prices.

Some, of my fellow, English people seem conveniently* ignorant of how; business, economies & international trade works.

In australia we are very fortunate to have some really good made in PRC products, probably because of different fair trade arrangements or transit costs, what product do you sell Richied

LoL, I use YUNDA H300K for practising(we just start to sell abroad, so you may not know this machine). I do repairing and testing as main work.

The reason why many of us have the low opinion of chinese tools is that we have had bad experiences of poor quality goods from your country- not just tools, but DVD players that barely last the 12 months guarantee for example. The only way for China to change this opinion is by improving their quality.

i don't like buying anything expensive made in china now. i try and avoid buying anything electrical or mecanical as i've had so much of it brake, some of the random consumable are ok tho

not everything from china electrical is sub standard. i use chint single and 3 phase distribution boards verry good quality and the price is rite ive only ever had one faulty unit i rang the managing director up for uk supply and complained . the responce was we will look into it and i was given 4 free distribution boards free £250 worth well happy. wylex crabtree mem and volex all had faulty breakers and had to be returned british companys . compensation noooooooooooooo jack sh '''t

I worked out there for a bit, and to summarise much time looking round large items of process plant (boilers and turbines besides other things) - I'd sum up the Chinese market thus:

- Chinese co's seem to do what is asked of them - deliveries on or before the due date (and that's on lead times often 30-50% that of European suppliers)
- Costs were lower like for like. BUT there is a massive range of suppliers - so if you want cheap cheap, you can have cheap cheap - but you get cheap cheap results. On the other hand, say talking about the level of non-destructive testing done, if you ask for it they will quickly offer NDT'ing all parts - in the EU I'm afraid you'd be arguing or paying extra for every additional %
- If you didn't ask for it or check it out, you'd probably not guarantee getting it (e.g compliance with certain regs).

I do have a suspicion a lot of the less reputed goods that come our way is because we (in the West) spec'd it down that way to reduce costs right down.

Lastly, I'd say it was common for the design/originality not to be the strongest. Often the better kit was based on Eastern bloc designs, or licensed from Western origins. There are a lot of 'standard' designs (like all the WSE welders seem to be) - sadly this often meant the manufacturing company didn't fully understand the operation or implications of certain changes or developments.
