I have many Terry Pratchet books. In original English of course, because you can't translate the jokes.
Bought this one when my son was about 3 or 4 years old, he's 22 now.

I've read most of them, first got into them when Eric was published, then went back and read the earlier ones as was impressed by it.
Lots of favourite snippets, the camel in pyramids, the unseen librarian etc. And there's a lot of references to it quietly in culture and technology that you may have missed unless you have read the books first.
I watched the animated series recently, and to my taste its completely rubbish in comparison. But I thought the same about HHGTTG's tv implementation. Its someone elses low budget vision.

There's actually a joke computer language called Ook thats based off the librarians speech in the books.
Here's the classic hello world example in ook. Its not supposed to be readable.

I've done a (Ctf) challenge where a vital piece of the puzzle to solve it was written in Ook, but the same person set one in Baa another time which is equally as fiendish.

There's also a HTTP header setup with a rfc when Sir Terry passed away, quite a lot of sites globally still using it.
The idea being from "Clacks" where telegraph operators are never said to be truly dead while their telegraphs are still transmitting on the network.

So you should just read one and judge it for yourself, but the books have inspired a lot of thinkers in the world with its humour and side eye look at concepts in the modern world in a way that doesnt inflame half the world against them. And I personally find them amusing and a great read.

Any fans of Terry Pratchett here ? I haven’t read any but think I’ll like them the question is are they best read in order or can you just start anywhere?

Start anywhere as they are all stand alone books..
Be prepared to laugh a lot...
And reread them... theyre very addictive

They are absolutely phenomenal. You are in for a treat. The way he skewers political theories; assumptions about life and attitudes...having read them first as a child, it's sometimes only decades later that some of the references click, and I can be impressed all over again. When the first tourist describes the concept of 'in-sewer-ants' and the Ankh-Morporkians immediately invent insurance fraud...

There are some very good BBC radio dramatisations as well. There are some episodes of 'Night Watch' still up, it having been on Radio 4 Extra recently. "Mort" and "Guards! Guards!" are the others I've heard, I think. I enjoyed the relatively recent diesel-punkish TV series 'The Watch' too. Despite its deviation from the source material, I thought it captured a similar feeling I get from the books.

"I ate'nt dead" in Granny Weatherwax spelling. I've got them all on Kindle and am about due to read them again. Rincewind, probably the worst ever Wizzard (his spelling on his hat) is a really good character to follow along with Sam Vimes. I got the Nanny Ogg cook book as well.
