Basic phone tracker apps

Later this year MrsG retires and plans to join a local walking group amongst other things.
She asked me if there was an app I could install on her phone so I would know where she is just in case.

Hunted around an Life360 is the main one but by god its OTT for what we need. It constantly asks for more permissions so it can detect accidents when driving, send messages to each other, set up groups and god know what else.
You can dismiss a lot of the messages and it does the job, but then the prompts and messages come back.

Anyone have experience of a simple phone tracker app (Android) that just shows on a map where the phone is. That's it.

We don't need messages, driving data, saved journeys and all the extra bloat that all the apps seem to offer.

Snapchat...honestly, the map function is pretty spot on and if you only have each other as friends you don't get spammed by anyone. 1 quick swipe and her phone will show on a live map...failing that you can set WhatsApp and Facebook messenger to transmit a live location for up to 8 hours to any contact you wish.

I've tried life360 and got fed up with it after about half a day of constant nagging for permissions for features I didn't need.

All the systems rely on phone signal to a certain extent though, even the GPS based ones will likely want a signal to be able to transmit the data to you so personally I would look at stand alone systems with a transmitter and receiver although I have no experience with them at all, but if lack of phone signal becomes a concern, they may be a better option

Findmy is pretty good, I can dish the grub up on the plate steaming hot as she pulls up on the driveway.

We use spot trackers at work. They work everywhere and are very accurate.

I've never understood all this tracking crap. A bloke who worked with us a while ago tracked his girlfriend constantly, & she the same with him. He actually seemed happy about doing so.

Chuffing weird it is, if you ask me. If I ever had another relationship, & she suggested doing that, it'd be a short relationship.

You can selectively turn it off if you wish, it's not compulsary but very useful at times.

Exactly that, we had the lone working situation rear its ugly head at a H&S seminar and tracking/phone systems don’t cut it in remote areas. There are a few satellite based call systems that work but they are very expensive, in the end we went for the no lone working policy.
