Scrapping an old lathe

Question: Will I go to hell if I scrap an old lathe? I was given a Broadway lathe by a friend and I've decided I won't ever get round to refurbishing it for use. I tried giving it away on here a while back and have tried on lathe groups on Facebook, all to no avail. I won't be able to sell it as it's old and needs restoring/recommissioning as well as being a very unusual model so all I can think to do it scrap it.
I don't want to but I can't think of any other way to mpove it on, unless anyone has any suggestions?

I did that when my friend got it, and again when I decided it had to go but received no reply.

I had a big old wadkin mortising machine, could not move it cast iron heavy old thing.
I tried everywhere to give it away, on here if I remember correctly as well.
In the end I felt bad for about ten minutes after I had broke it up with a sledge.

There comes a time. I broke up father in laws mitchell Junior a few months ago, It was old, needed parts & nobody wanted it, house was sold & it was in the way & had to go. I didnt feel guilty!

A quick 'free to collector' or 'dismantling for spares' advert on homeworkshop.org.uk might shift it.

Can you show a photo of what you have? The chuck, tailstock, thread dial indicator and change gears (work out the specification of them) might interest someone.

Pity it is not on a stand as the cast iron legs fetch good money from the blowlamp table lamp crowd.

I always feel a tinge of saddness when a big cast iron machine gets broken up, it and its like will never be made again. Reality always prevails but still goes against my grain even though i have done it myself.

Just remember when the iron is broken up and weighed in a proportion of it will go into new machines. It will live on, so don't be too upset.

But it will go to China to be melted down and returned as a lathe with one 1/5th of the metal content and one 1/5th of the quality.

I've recently discovered a ruthless streak in clearing out my workshop, and although i hate myself as I'm loading up the trailer with stuff I might get round to using one day, every time I get back and there's a little more floor space it encourages me even more.

Fortunately I don't have many big ticket items this time round, as last house move a couple of never-started projects (lathe and surface grinder) went to someone on here.

Hardest part at the moment is my elderly uncle is also clearing out his workshop, and keeps offering me exactly the kind of stuff I'm throwing out myself (hoards of boxes of odd bits and pieces from a lifetime of hanging on to things that might come in handy one day).

Remove the headstock, tailstock, saddle, etc., clean it up and mount a nice sturdy sheet of appropriately sized glass atop - low coffee table with genuine industrial heritage. Sort of thing I'd do*.

one of my favourite phrases from my grandfather...if you cant get rid of it, get rid of it...he used to set a deadline for trying to sell something, if he still had it at the deadline it was for the bin/scrap

Good luck, I sent him detail of the quite rare old Brittannia lathe for sale not far from me, he did answer, with something like "that's a rough old Colchester", totally missed the point that it was Brittania, from Colchester, England.. I'd done a lot of work trying to identify it, even took a spin out on my bike to photograph it.

Just oil it, brush the crap off it, oil it again and use it. Dismantling old iron for fun can lead to tears.

Someone on a local FB group was giving away a small lathe, tried to jump on it but multiple replies of "it's worth £300/500/2000" mean it is now on eBay, unsold and will likely be a pain for the owner, dealing with her husband's death.
I have tried to be helpful and was labelled a vulture

I asked everyone who gave a figure if they wanted to buy it, not one replied
