Thanks Guys for taking the trouble to check and post, very much appreciated, I learn a bit more vice info from reading each post ... so much knowledge, all in one place
It does seem to be that 5/16" is more likely to be the norm, even if this is not recognised by the supplier. .I have refrained from identifying the suppliers company because they are a great resource for those among us who restore/mend vices.and this bit of a problem is, I'm sure, an outlier in the grand scheme of things.
Quite a few will have guessed it by now anyway, I'll return the jaws to Adrian and order bespoke jaws along with the strong suggestion that he review his layout pattern for the 8A
I think I need to book a session with my therapist to help me control my current surge of vice envy. About 3 years back, I saw a Parky swivel jaw on F. Marketplace attached to a large metal bench for a hundred quid. In the time it took to ring round for the lend of a big enough trailor, it was gone. As my old Grandad used to say 'Grab hoppertunity by the forelock boy, 'cos ee hent got not no tail'
Like the rest of the fellas here I would love a Parky swivel base [ #Gragson where is this magical tree from which they fall??] , but the only swivel I have is on a ?1970s? Chinese jobby that I use as a beater, to soak up all my vice abuse activities. It lives on an outside bench and gets the occasional spray of WD ..... and has stood up remarkably well in it's sacrificial role
I do have a Ball Base vice that was a 10th birthday present from my Grandfather but one of the base holes has chipped off and needs a bit brazing on.
Again thanks to all, and to anyone else who wants to chip in with their measurements, info would be most welcome
be good be safe and be lucky
Dave
