Banning it won't stop it existing. We'll end up with an AI deterrent just in case the enemy use their against us.

What I'd like to see is a ban on all advertising that mentions AI, when it just means some software.
Everything from Dish washers to lawnmowers via watches and fridges somehow has suddenly got AI in it ..... I don't think so, it's just a fancy buzzword for gullible people...

Problem is that it is as incredibly useful as it is incredibly-overhyped.

That and the petition's ambition ("seek a global ban on superintelligence") is physically impossible to achieve. I could get behind something along the lines of safer AI development but a) the knowledge and tools are already in millions of people's hands and heads, so cannot be uninvented and b) do you think China will listen to this and would you want to live in a world where all nations except one have banned it?

biggest issue i have with ai is multiple hundred ai scrapers ripping data off of a private forum, causing so much load that it crashes the forum. we like the basic part of the forum to be open to unregistered guests, but this is getting silly. the only way to stop it is to make the entire forum invisible unless logged in...

Any half decent ai could register on most forums. Afterall, all you need is an email address for most..

yeah, but every registration gets manually approved, and ai would just get banned.
