It is a very big problem. They find your address from it. I use a MX and Enduro Forum and people I know at least one on there that after posting up a pic of his first bike, so it's not like bikes had been seen at his house before. It was stolen a day later.

No one knew he had it, not even his lass, he was trying to buck up courage to tell her. So the only way they knew where he lived was from the reg plate on his car in the pic

So he posted a pic up of his bike and in 24 hrs the theives had obtained the address details from a car reg picture in the background and got round and stolen the bike

My iphone stores GPS positions of photographs when I take them (unless I disable the function). So is it possible the bikes position was found this way rather than using the reg plate?

Agreed, photo 'properties' can contain date taken etc. and GPS data if you've got a posh phone/camera, I've had a look and it appears that photos uploaded to the forum lose this data. If photo's were uploaded to an image hosting site which retains all the information then the scumbags could potentially figure out where shiny things live.

Great thread this, I do enjoy seeing other peoples workshops / garages, great for ideas, here's mine, certainly a contributory factor to buying the house (for me), although it came with a huge cider press concreted into an earth floor, spreading A frames which I have since braced, I'm one day hoping to have the time and money to put in an inspection pit, and if you look carefully I've only dug out and levelled about 60% of the floor and put a thin cement scree over it, the dry earth floor was a nightmare for losing things and working with air tools.

Important things I have found have been, lots of lighting, lots of storage, I find if I put things in drawers I forget they exist, so I prefer to nail things to walls, or failing that boxes clearly marked, well that's the idea. Heating will hopefully be plumbed in this year I have a huge woodburner with a backboiler on it which if I win the lottery I would love to put in underfloor heating but that's a question of putting in the pit properly and sorting that out, only a question of time and money,(doh). Mid winter it's as bad as where I work and there is just no pleasure freezing your bits off.

I built the workbench from bits from the scrappie, and the bench grinder and piller drill stand are from old street lamp columns recuperated from some friendly town council workers, as is all the shelving which I was given, but sadly lacking the vertical bits which it would have all slotted into, so I found an alternative way, to weld it together, although it does partially dismantle.

Final photo is how I wired up my three phase and 220 system, its not finished it's still kind of extension cables from the fusebox, but its better than running a triphase extension cable through the kitchen and out the cat flap (really).

...that's exactly what happens to me. I keep my tools in drawers. Forget what I've got half the time. You've hit the nail on the head there. Mind you, I think I may do it intentionally...

It's a good size space but I've hardly been in there for months as it's been so cold. It's always handy to move the pillar drill for different jobs, and its a real cheap one, but so so useful, and I hate at work you turn off the bech grinder and the whole bench vibrates for thirty seconds. Taking some photos gave me the chance to tidy up abit, the carpet came from a skip, fantastic for working under cars etc, I wonder if it will catch fire?

... ...been there. All the stuff (my projects) falls off the bench ...all over the floor.

Carpet is a good idea. The concrete seems to draw the heat out, from the feet, even when just walking on it... I use a piece of floor vinyl for under cars, it seems to resist spatter quite well and doesn't soak up moisture / dampness.

My workshop

Hi guys

some seriously nice workshops/sheds/garages on here, so thought I'd stick up a few pics of mine and a couple of pics of creations made within it!






these are a couple of trailers that I knocked up; first is a 8' x 4' 750Kg unbraked one with 2mm steel folded sides attached to 50 x 50mm box uprights and indespension units on 13" rims with a fold down removable tail gate. the second pic is of an ATV off road trailer 5' x 3' knocked up with 30mm angle and some mesh we had lying about - it gets plenty of use hauling wood for the fire!

my little unit, it's not too big but has a nice little office bit to the left for my signwriting/vinyl cutting gear and just big enough for my general tinkering.

The first day I got the keys:

It's in a pretty good state at the moment but no pictures, could do with a clear-out though.

My brother and I are considering clubbing together to rent a larger unit however he's messier than me, so I'm not sure that would be a good idea.
