Grinder leads

Managed to damage not 1 but 2 of my grinder leads today.... burnt one, found a nick in another.... any recommendations for a roll of decent 2 core cable? Rekon it's either .5 or .75mmod is just under 7mm.. I can put a plug on so prefer not to be ripped off by some of the ready made stuff I have googled

Beware with artic grade cables they have a lower top temperature limit than normal ones. The best for tools is as recommended in another post H05 or H07 RNF the difference between 5 and 7 is the voltage rating, both are correct for mains use. Both are flexible and with much better resistance to hot things than artic grade.

Yes. It is good that you point that out. For me, the convenience of arctic cables far outweighs this risk; however, I accept that others might come to a different conclusion in a more structured environment.

Convenience in what respect? The rubber sheathed flex mentioned above is highly flexible & robust.

I don't know why but the first time I read the side of it I thought it said HORN on the side... so I've always thought of it as horny cable

As above use H07RN cable a d also fit the short end of the grinder with a powercon plug and just have an extension lead for tools it makes tools a lot neater for storage, all of my mains tools use them.

Perhaps time for a cordless grinder? The Makita ones are quite powerful now.

That is what I do... I got a roll of blue "arctic cable" and replace the leads with a longer bit - renew plug if needed.

I call it "grinder hospital" - I wait till I got two or three to do....

I tend to buy good quality rubber cable , I find that artic cable is too plasticky and is stiff , and once it gets a nick it tears the outer cover , at one point I had literally half a lorry load of extension leads made from arctic as it was a third of the price of rubber h07rn and they didnt get nicked as easily as I used 110v yellow , they stand out in other peoples cable trunks , for personal use buy the good stuff and leave them long , or start putting powercon on the lead a foot down the cable , you can then just swap out leads to suit and fix them later.

The best stuff is H07 (heavy duty) or H05 (lighter weight).
Its what is fitted to the all the quality brands, heavy duty, little to no memory, and will lay flat so you aren't constantly fighting it.
1.0 or 1.25 depending on the current rating - you'll probably find 1.5 H07 too thick/heavy.

Most of my grinders have no earth and were supplied with 2core 0.75mm2 cable, I have replaced most cables with 2 core 1mm H07RN-F from CEF with permaplugs, Amazon have them for £17.50 for 10.
