Copper casting last weekend.

Me and MrsG were back last weekend casting copper axe heads rather than bronze animals.
Mould much easier to make due to much simpler shape. It's a copy of Otzi the iceman's axe head.

Simpler to make the mould but trickier to pour.
We were a bit slow hence the pitting.

But as the tutor said, the important end is fine and 'copper age' man would have been happy to use it.

Definitely like this casting lark.


Going to have a go at flint knapping next.

We did casting at school, it was great fun. Made the handles/seat for a shooting stick and a cockerel for the top of a weather vane. The cockerel was aluminium, can’t recall what the handles were cast in

Not so difficult to make, but you would be best advised to get an Amal propane injector as your burner basis, and use compressed air assistance.
Burlen Fuel Systems in Salisbury are the people to speak to on that.....
