Only five out of the man caves fourteen 5’ led tubes have lasted more than two years and that was with minimal use, stripped out all of the old starters/ballasts now and fitted new Compton tubes, will see if they last any longer being a brand name and wired direct.

Wow, that's poor.

I know it's tempting fate but I fitted 20 odd LED battens (a mix of mostly singles and 3 doubles) in my shed/workshop about 9 years ago and haven't had a single failure (he says, touching wood whilst typing!). I used Knightsbridge branded stuff from TLC.

I've done a few re-lamping projects and always had an unacceptable failure rate if ballasts were left in

The only time we re-lamp is in odd ball fittings, these days full unit replacement usually cheaper

Not sure these days but originally they were sold as T5 and T8 direct swaps, no need to rewire

Exactly that, I noticed how hot the whole light units were a while back, never crossed my mind that I was powering up a heating element, they run stone cold now.

6500K is way too harsh for workshop lighting. 4000K is much less straining.

4000K JCC Skypack here. Dead easy to fit and 5 year warranty too.
