It still won't answer your question, but probably similar to why old Starrett tap wrenches are so much nicer than new ones or Moore and Wright micrometers. It didn't used to make much difference in cost whether you made something nice or made something half finished because it was made on a manual machine by a skilled person either way, so they made it nice. Now any old numpty can be dragged in off the street and thrown in front of a CNC machine rattling off parts and they don't care if it's nice or not. They probably don't even know if it's nice or not.Again......Please read my posting you quoted.
I'm asking what/why this little torch in the OP is so sought after.
Deburring and finishing takes the same amount of work as it ever did, but as a percentage of the total price, it's a comparative fortune now, so it's often skipped or you pay through the nose for the privilege.
As to why snap on can't be bothered to finish or plate the inside of their ring spanners or sockets anymore? I think it's pure arrogance
