Tool post grinders.....?

Are they worth having , if the lathe itself is in good order ?
Most unwilling to risk the integrity and accuracy of my Colchester , but it's a thought that recurs frequently.

I have a home made one, it has a bit of a wobble, never bothered sorting it. But I have heard of them being used to grind cranks.

What size Colchester is it? Like with many lathe things, smaller ones of any type are more expensive than larger ones.

I think in the US littlemachineshop had an economicaly-priced version for the Chinese lathes. Ali might be a source for something similar.

With CBN inserts from China, some things that would traditionally be ground can now be hard turned.

I sometimes have a requirement to grind hard chrome, but not often.
It'd take up a lot less space than a cylindrical grinder, as well.....

only way id use one on a lathe was if i realy had to and only then cover most of it with a cloth including the chuck taped on . same as turning cast iron

I have a Duplex D27.
Guard and wheel removed in the picture but came with them and an internal grinding spindle too.
It has two speeds by changing belts.
Yes, cover everything and use vacuum extraction.

I used it to re-dress the camloc nose as described by Mr Crispen in a series of U-Tube videos.

Have not used it since!
