Two good reasons to beep your horn before starting a vehicle engine in winter.
I am not suggesting "annoying your neighbours" first thing in the mornings is good thing.
But slamming car doors does save cats lives.
A colleague of mine had a 240 Volvo, there is a huge fan & cowl behind the radiator. Their cat got into the engine bay climbed through the fan & was sleeping against the warm rad. Pete went out to go to work, started the car, horrible noise from the engine bay, cat was still in there, now an ex-cat, took a couple of blades off the fan as well. His wife & family blamed him!Two good reasons to beep your horn before starting a vehicle engine in winter.

One of my cats came from a farm where it had wrecked a leg getting caught up like that. The missus spent weeks gradually healing the little beggar and he eventually came good in the most remarkable fashion.Happened to a neighbour of ours in a Renault Espace, whatever way the cat got caught in the auxiliary belt it broke and took out the timing belt wrecking the engine, and the cat![]()

Was a stupid little sod and would lie out in the middle of the road in the sunshine.
Eventually that got him.
