I got my S600 back on the road at the weekend. It drove great and I finally got to properly warm up and top off the serviced auto gearbox oil level.
What was aparant was the anount of damp in the interior. I noticed an exterior mirror lamp on at night and when I went out to the car the dash board was lighting up going mad
Car off and locked.Clearly water was an issue. I then set in a mains powered dehumidifier and heaters off and on until tonight and re connected the battery. 3L of water was removed from the interior and all electronics are now back to normal - phew!! Im still running the dehumidifer a few more days to be sure its fully dried out. Been a long time since I sat in here. Bose sound, heated massaging seats. Nice interior to be in
Alcantara roof etc. Its the only car ive had to have a full leather rear parcel shelf
It has an old school built in radio system per photo - cant be replaced without big £. It has an aux audio input jack in the glovebox. I seen that cheap bluetooth self battery powered receivers are now on amazon etc. I got one and will try and see if for £8.99 I now have converted it to bluetooth streaming from my phone

A satsfying repair on my S600 this morning. The w140 s classes of mine have the key fob IR sensors in the rear view mirror. I incorrectly assumed it was the same setup in this w220 s class as the dome lamp module failed at the same time as the locking stopped working. (Mentioned before that the S600 dome lamps are around £1k used. Nuts. The replacement I got cheaper was a different part number too. But now I think the replacement is OK actually)
Anyway, the W220 has the IR sensors in the front door handles. I discovered this accidently when I pressed the key in my pocket near the car and the locking worked. Thw passenger side handle works but drivers side did not.
I swapped the readers around and passenger side worked in the drivers door. So I had a bad drivers door IR fob reader.
I removed it, dug out the epoxy and re flowed the tiny solder joints. It was the 2x I did last that fixed it at the top. That must be the sensor itself. I then uv expoxied it to re -seal. Job done - repair cost 5p of solder and epoxy.
These cannot be got new as far as I am aware. Ill still get a couple of used ones as spares. But good to know they can be fixed.

Took my 600 for its longest drive in years today. 100 miles. All good, car drove superb.
Quick snap at a motorway services coffee stop-
I think I burned around £30 - £40 of super UL. Its smiles per gallon that matter.
It did set the alarm off this evening. I can lock it with the key for a few days not a big deal. I suspect the alarm siren's backup battery is bad. Not surprising given its a 2003 car and with sitting around and no battery connected its had a hard couple of years. Tomorrow night I will remove the alarm siren from the wheel arch area and make sure the likes of this new pack will fit before I order - that is the most likely cause of false alarms and even anyway a fresh cell pack in it will be beneficial.

Update on the alarm problems. It seems to be fixed, its sat armed for about 8 hours now and no false alarms. I removed the old siren, its not the original but a 2012 replacement. Still that means the backup battery cells are 14 years old and due replacement. Inside the alarm was clean and dry.
The new ebay cell pack arrived yesterday so I fitted it, re-sealed the alarm unit and added a label noting its new battery date.
As said, so far so good. The last time it was going off inside an hour of being set. Its been sitting happily for 8 hours now.

Alarm is 100% fixed no false alarms for over a week.
Just back yesterday from a charity cannonball run in Ireland. Car did 425 miles, ran A1 no issues at all very pleased with that.
There is a "Light Sensor" problem affecting the headlamps auto operation so im going to investigate that next. I believe the headlamp switch may be faulty and affecting the interior can network.
