My Motivair compressor was made in 1975. I have just fallen in that I have had it 40 years ! It has a Broomwade 2 cylinder pump, and a Brook Crompton 3hp single phase motor. The 3hp, dont know how many ltrs, but about 4 foot long, ancient clarke / airmaster belt driven unit that i have in the garage, that refuses to die was, IIRC £150, second hand, almost a decade ago.
People always want new and shiny, but an old workhorse belt drive is better (and cheaper) in virtually every instance.
The motor on its own weighs 45 kg, and that with an alloy body. The tank is 150L and is 3/8ths thick
I think it was built to run all day, every day, forever. All I have done is changed the pump oil a couple of times and greased the motor bearings.
I hate to think how much this would cost in todays money, but I can't see anything produced now lasting that long. Not good for business.
