Which Air Compressor? SGS vs Clarke vs SIP

The 3hp, dont know how many ltrs, but about 4 foot long, ancient clarke / airmaster belt driven unit that i have in the garage, that refuses to die was, IIRC £150, second hand, almost a decade ago.

People always want new and shiny, but an old workhorse belt drive is better (and cheaper) in virtually every instance.

My Motivair compressor was made in 1975. I have just fallen in that I have had it 40 years ! It has a Broomwade 2 cylinder pump, and a Brook Crompton 3hp single phase motor.

The motor on its own weighs 45 kg, and that with an alloy body. The tank is 150L and is 3/8ths thick

I think it was built to run all day, every day, forever. All I have done is changed the pump oil a couple of times and greased the motor bearings.

I hate to think how much this would cost in todays money, but I can't see anything produced now lasting that long. Not good for business.

If anyone does buy a compressor from halfords, don't pay online with klarna, I went to collect today but they couldn't confirm the payment, nearly 2 hours in the store making numerous calls to klarna and halfords and the computer still said no and no one could tell me or the persistant halfords empoyee why. So that was a waste of 2 and a half hours of my life.

Which one did you get? What pressure does it fill to and how long it takes to fill from empty?

I got the 100l, probably takes about a minute, minute and a half to fill.

Fills up to 8bar of pressure.

Would you mind properly timing it as I now have mine, it is 50L and took 1 minute 15seconds to fill to 8 bar, I would like to know if I have a duff one, does yours have 2 pumps?

I suspect mine is fine as the 9cfm 50 lidl compressor takes twice as long to fill.
