If you include the time and effort in making your own, trying it and tweaking the formula, paying up cheerfully for a known, working product seems a better plan.

there's more to life than money

especially in your free time... I spend a lot of my free time tinkering with work related stuff... don't see it as work at all, I'm enjoying myself experimenting/trying new things / setting things just right

I'm assuming that these screens you're working on are for a customer? Have you asked them about using an experimental cleaner on their products?

In the short term, probably. But maybe only in the short term.

You're assuming you may stumble across a usable homebrew concoction eventually, though.

When it involves other folks equipment, however, best to stick with official & proven products, & make sure your prices cover that cost.

Homebrew is fine for personal use. For commercial use, rarely so.
