Out with the old.....

After 14 years of welding, grinding and painting on what looked like a perfect XK8 when I bought it, it's time to move it on. Now 24 years old and 155k miles. I think I'll be lucky to get £4k for it. I'd keep it if I had space but no such luck. It was only 10k to buy 14 years ago so not much lost.

The replacement car is 18 years old but only 44k miles, pretty sure it's close to rust free and perfect. I'd originally planned to buy a base Carrera 991.1 from ~2015 but this 997 turbo was on sale just 500m along the road from me, the owner has a 20 car collection in a heated showroom. I figured the older car will be closer to the bottom of its depreciation curve so opted for the older car. Bought today but delivery at the end of April as it won't be driven in winter. It's going to be a tough 3 month wait.

Surprisingly it turned out that I know the sellers Dad, he is in the pic below, this was one of the cars in the collection that he used to drive for occasional weddings as a hobby. My wedding day in 1984.

Will be, the Jag suspension is soft, compliant and comfortable, the 911 suspension is made out of a rock. A bit faster too, XK8 is 300bhp, the 911 is 480BHP.

Whoever ends up with the XK8 will have a great car for the money as I've fixed all the structural issues, but I've just fallen out of love with it. I even feel it's now become a joke brand, a bit embarrassing. That's why I didn't consider an F type 5l.

I half thought about an AMG GT, but they are still depreciating fast and overly complicated. Or an Aston Martin, too expensive to maintain, and a few others but ended up with this one mainly because it was sunny yesterday and it was just along the road.

One disadvantage of living along a mile long unmade bumpy farm track, I cant buy a nice sporty number. I do quite fancy sports car, and a 911 ticks many boxes, getting in no problem, out would be a roll and crawl I think sadly.
