They are ALL reliable, until they go wrong, and they ALL will one day. I am not talking about stuff that is normal wear and tear like tyres, brakes, batteries, cam belts, bulbs, wiper blades, exhausts, although not so much these days (my Combo is still on its original) but major mechanical and electrical modules that most garages seem unable to diagnose properly, and rust I guess.
All depends how much money you are prepared to throw at it. Just because something is new(er) does not guarantee there will be no problems. There are loads of good cars around @ £3-4k that might need a few £ spent. I would rather do that than spend £20k plus.
Many buy new vehicles for self image, but in reality, no one else cares.
Could always tell her you will buy it, but she will have to pay for any repairs herself !
