That was running in there as clean as a whistle, do you not spray on developer after you spray on the red dye? to save something that resembles a murder scene, spray dye in the lid of the tin and brush it on.

No need for developer the dye would bleed straight through any imperfections .

The link still played the video and I don't have Facebook (never have). When I'm worried about cookies etc I just bung the link in a browser that deletes the lot after closing.

showed a rookie ndt man that in norway he had a slip on stainless flange to check
fillet welds
looked like "there been a murder " whole flange dripping , small brush and lid off the dye, one red face later sorted !

The whole point of developer is to make the tiniest of discontinuities more visible- following a suitable dwell time for the penetrant and developer.

Yes very true , this is a oil pan not a nuclear reactor .
That penitrant would find any defect within minutes .
I have welded many casings using the same test method , never had one back because of a oil leak .

Quite right,and a testament to doing a decent job..
A couple of squirts of developer would help it get drawn through too as it does help with the capillary action, as well as increasing the contrast. The red systems are actually known as 'colour contrast' penetrants.

For anyone interested, the ideal dwell time would be approx 20mins on a part around 15degs C, followed by developer, also with a similar time to fully develop.
