We have an air fryer, her in charge of the kitchen uses it quite a lot, saves turning on the oven for small items. I don’t think you could call it a gadget, but another thing the she uses on a regular basis is a pressure cooker, a bit old fashioned, but just the job for bacon joints & steak & kidney for pies. We eat well, her indoors is a really good cook & enjoys it
The domestic authorities acquired one as a freebie and it seems very popular and convenient
I've never attempted to use it myself though, I just bung whatever I want as a breakfast or whatever in the olde frying pan in traditional fashion..
The air things do seem to be successful though and prob worth getting.

I was over in the USA with this lot last year doing due-diligence stuff on a new project.

Yes. I’ve never seen one for sale up here, contrary to rumour.
Re: good gadgets, I’d also add in our pair of Lodge cast-iron pans. They’ll last a lifetime or more, unlike the boxes of sticky non-stick and ceramic pans that I can’t throw away.
They can go in the oven, so don’t have insulated handles, so you need to use a tea towel when using them on the hob, making you look and feel like a pro chef

Energy use is a very good point. It stands to reason that an air fryer is more economical than a big electric or gas range. Even if you pre heat your AF (which you should!) the cooking times are way shorter and the mass of the cooking utensil way lower.
Thing is, being a single person, cooking for one has always been rather wasteful. I have experimented with batch cooking/freezing and that's great when I can be bothered but if you just want chicken and chips, that's a ton of wasted energy for the single portions. The AF is not just very speedy (and very good!) it's also extremely energy efficient.
My massive gas range now just sits there looking awesome, waiting for the next pizza...

I have a single bucket one, looks a bit like a slightly plump kettle, and I do multiple "things" just by adding them at various times. So I do a piece of battered fish from the freezer for 4 minutes, then add some frozen chips and cook all of it for a further 13, and it comes out at least as well as it used to in the oven. The oven now is only used for pizza (because it won't fit in the air fryer) and Christmas dinner. I'm sure some stuff could be better done in other ways, but I'm only cooking for me so I want the minimum fuss.

I avoided an air fryer for years. Why? I don't eat fried food! When we finally got one I realised they are NOT a fryer but a mini fan oven! Why don't they tell you that

I was in a takeaway chippy in Warrington depot in the late 70's/early 80's on an in-house works training course, they were listed on the menu.....
