i feel like my father would like one of those...he has a cheapy electric trimmer type chainsaw for chopping small limbs for pen blank stock...but its naff...this contraption on a cordless grinder could be better...or atleast more exciting

Hmmm sounds amazing....

Amazingly BAD....No chain brake that I can see and no clutch.....so if the saw does meet an obstacle in the cut the grinder could go flying. Should be banned outright no question...

I have had a few electric chainsaws, and none have a clutch.
Nor a chain brake for that matter.

Maybe they stop fast enough when the power is cut ?

I'm not saying I'm going to try using one but,
My cordless grinder has plenty of power.
It has a paddle switch and a very fast brake.
It also has an electronic 'clutch' and some sort of electronic gyro sensor that stops it if you drop it. You can set the clutch force via an app.
It might actually be safer to use that attachment on a grinder like that than use a regular chainsaw?

I wouldnt say its particually unsafe, but it will be rubbish. Grinders generally dont have the power, well unless your fitting it to a 9" - in which case it would likely have oodles of torque but a painfully slow chain speed.

A large part of it is as to who will be using it? This would likely appeal to untrained builder or DIY types that have grinder and never used a proper chainsaw, who have no idea how to use one safely.
A trained tree worker would have no interest in such a bodge.

Hmm. Tempting. If it was 24 inch I’d be all over it. Be ideal as the basis for a properly engineered log milling contraption. If it had a 16 inch throat then it might just work for smaller logs but I suspect the actual “depth of cut” would be a lot less than 16 inch.

I may do a Sketchup model, see if it could sort of whittle away at the “rounds” until the squared off remainder would fit the length of the cut iyswim.

For log milling I'd probably want a big 3ph motor on a 32A socket and VFD and fabricate the bar mount from scratch, it is not a difficult thing to do.

I've done some chainsaw milling with the 372xp and I wouldnt want any less power for it! I dont think a grinder would last very long either - just like milling is very hard on chainsaws, they dont last too long if used like that.

I don't want any electric chainsaw (plug in or battery) so I don't have to listen the whine of the commutator.
Nor the buzz of a 2 stroke engine.
All day long.

I had penciled around a bit the idea of making an adapter for a standard flange mount motor, adapting to a chainsaw bar.

I just thought of something with these grinder attachments.
I have angle grinders with 3 different on/off switch styles
1. paddle
2. trigger
3. slide

Each one would present different ways to hold the unit, with a chainsaw on it
I can't really see any of the 3 switch configurations working out well.

....*possibly* it might have uses in some scenarios.... small cuts in 2 to 3 inch diam wood it might be ok ....maybe carpentry on cut roofs for example rather than using one for a few hours for felling trees ...and not for cutting 6 to 12 inch diam stored firewood either (there are no dogs on the attachment to engage in bigger wood)...horses for courses...
