Laptop internet connection

Various TVs mobiles, computers and laptops are all fine on the internet but on one laptop, the internet is constantly dropping out, running slow, and generally behaves like it has a bad connection. (It's on Wifi)

The laptop is 3-4 years old, battery useless, so it's due a replacement, but if this a 'thing'? Every other function on the laptop works fine

No, HP.

The fan has periods of revving its nuts off when it's not doing much. It also hates Ebay. (As much as I do!). The website makes the fan run hard and fast

faulty modem just buy a usb wifi dongle instead

I've been moving over most devices to Linux these last few months, I have one mini pc that used to drop Bluetooth to the point of being unusable under Win 11, not a problem with Kubuntu

Do a temporary hard wire into the modem and see how it is then ?

Had to replace my LT, exactly the same symptoms, new LT with same connection, no problem, are they designed to get slower so a
replacement is the only option, possibly

I'd suspect software before hardware. What browser are you using, and have you tried a different browser (and, ideally, in Incognito / InPrivate mode)? Reason I ask is to rule out any installed browser extensions.

What does this speed test site report, and can does that differ by browser? https://www.speedtest.net/

Most old PC's and laptops I got at home and at the workshop.

Perfomance has been restored/improved by a simple plug in with CAT5 cable from the router. Just drop the wifi....

has it got a net work connection plug that in first see if better

you can **** about or just do a fresh install of windows and see what happens after that normaly stops software problems

i have a 2nd laptop drive i use to test/reload windows on sorts out most problems unless hard ware failure most of the time you can swap the drive and not even reload it
