Reducing MDPE pipe at an elbow

I need to reduce from 32mm MDPE barrier pipe to 25mm non barrier and the only effective way to do this looking at the pipe run is using a 90 degree elbow.

I want to use Plasson fittings as everything is buried, not on my land, 15 mins walk across fields and is a pain in the backside if it leaks and Plasson seem to be reliable.

Plasson do a 32-25 straight reducer so I could use that and then a 90 elbow 25-25. But thats four joins when I could get away with two. Plasson dont, as far as I can tell make an elbow that reduces from 32 5o 25mm pipe (other cheaper brands are available though but dont want to use them).

Plasson do make this kit though to reduce within the fitting itself:

This reducing set cant use a pipe insert. Is that a problem with this system and are reducers of this type reliable?

I've only used inserts on transition fittings or when you know it's going to need some brute force to seal it

id not worry about it ive not done loads of them (at work we got up to 90mm pipes there had a couple fail when we took them apart it was just age (been there 20 plus years? plus not virgin ground so moves more and they have only been filled with soft soil no protection

and id say Plasson one of if not the best

put 2 bits in there if it makes it easy pea gravel around then fill and forget (have the levers to tighten them it makes it a lot easyer

Plasson is what we use in the temporary electrics business (yes we do all the temp plumbing as well) and they are very tough. Not sure on the reducer but the kit is good.

I plan to put this next to a stop tap - its about half way (3/4 mile) along the pipeline, so helps with isolation and leak finding. And then both the stop tap and join will be in a manhole for access. I just dont want any more leaks as i have had four in the last 12 months and replaced a lot of pipe.

What doesnt help is when one neighbour cant wait more than 5 minutes after I have filled in a trench before it seems he has to drive a tractor and muck spreader over what I have just laid. I have right of access for the pipe but he seems intent on making life difficult - most major leaks have been on his land and its another neighbour who helps me fix them whilst the party responsible looks on... I need to have words...

They do need far more tightening than all the others but they seal well .

I haven't used a plasson insert for a decade or more. All rough and ready agricultural type stuff and a fair bit of it, 100s of fittings for sure. Never had a fitting leak other than because the pipe is marred or a digger has smooshed it. Run at up to ~9bar on the odd occasion a pump regulator has failed. But mostly 4-6 bar.

Plenty of reducing kits too.

I suppose all the underground fittings could be weeping away but the above ground ones sealed well, but seems unlikely.

I'd seen that Bob but was sorta trying to stick to plasson. I can't tell what make that is as their plasson stuff is generally labelled. I'm probably worrying about nothing.

(I have the reducer kit i link to above on the shelf but just wanted the most reliable connection)

we use jdp for parts over here over here but if you got it use it premting some thing that might happen is the worst yes if you got old paster lying around you think about using that twice then use new if those fittings been around for 5 years then buy new as the rubber may not be as good they will cost £40 qiud to buy new you can only do what you can to prevent problems

Outside the box ideas;
-Reducing T with a blanking plug
-An elbow and a straight fitting with bsp ends screwed together.

I wouldn’t get too hung up on the plasson thing, Talbot is another make that I would 100% trust and they make a 32/25 reducing elbow. I too dont like the reducer sets and avoid them, I checked stock in the shed and there are lots of 25/20 reducing elbows but no 32/25.
