If it was cheap cheap then there's not much to lose but it's a lot of bike with a lot of bodywork and a lot of stuff to rot away underneath. If it's been off the road a while it'll need a full work-through.

There was a reasonable condition one for sale nearby here for 600 quid last year. An old guy was giving up riding. It didn't exactly sell quickly and he had to put it up for offers and that bike was complete and in fairly reasonable nick.

Apparently it is 700 :dontknow:

Another snippet I learned today is that its ex Police, so no doubt will have lots of holes drilled for their equipment. Most likely had the wiring chopped about too I suspect.

I passed my test on a Honda CG125, and at the first available opportunity (the next day) part-exed that as part payment on a GSX 750. When I got bored with that I noticed Mocheck (IIRC) were advertising a brand new full spec Moto Martin rolling chassis, just needing aeroquip hoses and a donor Suzuki to complete it, for £1700........
Oh how I wish I'd bought that, but I bought a katana 1100 instead.

so he dont mind you spending your time energy and money collecting a motor bike to save £200 whats going to happen when hes got to spend 500/800 to get it on the road or is the idea of you keeping it there is so you end up doing the work as well :laughing:

I know a guy whose first and only bike he has had after passing his test is a Hayabusa. I wouldn;t recommend it though.

700 is reasonable for any running concern TBH, so long as it is actually up and going. eevn just having to put a battery and brake pads on it is gonna cost another 200 quid. I've got a couple of big bikes I'd sell for about 100 quid more fully up and running mot'd and roadworthy just with high miles.

There is absolutely no chance of that happening. I will not touch it at any price.

He has decided he wants it, and will take no notice of what anyone else says. He wants it to go touring with his wife. Got plans to go to Europe too.

I am hoping the seller will start it up and walk it up the ramps into the van.

a 700 quid bike and wants to drive it round europe dont sound like its going that far unless hes a good mechinc

a good strong ramp (not a scaffold plank it weighs a lot)

start bike, one guy each side, idle it up the ramp, steer left once up and jam the front wheel in the corner of the bulkhead. put on sidestand.

strap through the footpeg brackets to the rear of the van. one each side pulling backwards.

steering lock on.

strap round the bottom yokes through the fork legs to the forward tie downs. you can go to the opposite side fork leg than the side you are tieing down if you need to lower the angle to miss the bottom of the fairings.

strap it down so its nearly upright on the side stand.

cable tie the front brake on.

done. drive home and reverse.

i transported many bikes in vans for many years like this. will work fine.

(a sprint st1050 in a peugeot partner swb was... tight).

So don't use the centre stand then ? The only problem with the plan is on the left side of the bulkhead is the side door, and I wouldn't want to rely on that too much.
There are six tie down points on the floor and eight half way up the sides, so plenty of options.

Hopefully getting it out will be OK too !

If it goes in backwards getting it out will be a breeze. Be aware, getting heavy things out of vans can take a long time...

I never use the center stand, it narrows the contact points far too much. Up against the door will be fine, you won’t be putting any real force on it.

A guy I know bought an ex police Vauxhall Senator. All the wiring and switches for the extra lights and sirens was still fitted.
He went shopping on ebay and refitted a lot of the gear though he fitted orange lights instead of blue. Apart from the hidden lights behind the grill, they were still blue!
He used it as a course car for motorsport events and also to scare mates on the road!

Height is not a problem, six footers can get in and out of the back doors without ducking, as you say, its the loading that worries me.
