Slowing down rust Inside a car sill.

I have an Alfa Brera which the inside of the sill is starting to rust so it's too late for wax oil so is there anyway to Tey and slow the rust spreading down ?
I know the only thing is to replace the sill but it's still very solid im just looking at trying to prevent whats there spreading and ive seen a post where a equal measure of automatic gearbox oil and acetone poured into the sill would soak in and the wax in the gearbox oil would slow it down slightly ....
Would you seasoned professionals agree or are you actually laughing at the thought ?

Is this a wooden framed car?

Acetone is a paint remover/solvent not to mention highly inflammable

I heard stories that the army sprayed used engine oil inside land rover chassis but that would also create an oil slick where you park so not for most people

The main thing is to get it dry and keep it dry. A dedicated rust killer/converter may help but as you say, an impervious coating like waxoil/lanolin may well help wet rust to breed.

I'm going to go the ACF 50 route with my project as I'm sure wax type products would create a barrier to trap moisture on the already rusty surface and block drain holes. The wax that was applied earlier in its life if flaking off so I'm scraping as much out as I can while I have access.

Old diesel engine oil sprayed inside the section using schutz gun or whatever at 50/60 psi. It's thick so will cling on - anything diluted with trans oil will just run off through the drainage holes. Don't try to fill the sill or it runs off for ages. Drill some additional holes ( suitably paint protected) and fit rubber bungs if there are areas of the sill distant to your gun. Repeat treatment every year. It will be fine forever

I usually mix old engine oil and grease together and coat the inner wheel arches once I've treated them but this Breras a limited edition and ive done the inner wings properly with spray underneath which looks really well but the inner sills have rust running along the seem where the outer sill folds onto the floor so a runny gearbox oil/acetone mixture I thought would run and sit nicely along there to stop it from rusting or spreading further ... there are drainage holes already in the sill but are covered up and theres a rubber bung in the wheel arch where I can look through and ive seen the rust so I wanted to pour something in ...

I think wax it OK if it's a clean panel but with rust already started it can't soak in a stop it ... ? That's my thinking .... ?

Can you remove the bung & get it dry inside? Pass an airline down the sill maybe. Then you could wax it in the normal way on a dry surface

You would probably be best of spraying one of the dinitrol products in, such as the ML or 3125.

Yes I've used engine oil before mixed with grease and ive painted under previous cars before and their wheel arches but that was when the rust had been treated and the oil/grease mixture was to keep the water off the car but I was thinking the acetone would remove the rust and then perhaps drain it and then get something better in ..

I think acetone would soften the remaining paint, so you would be causing another problem.

That thinking aligned with what I have seen, purely acecdotal though.

I can get an airline in front and rear of the sills but theyre sectioned off with pieces of plastic which are held inplace by spray foam , theres 2 of them about 2ft from the front and rear in the sill

Hmm, slowing down rust on an Alpha hey? How fast is it?

If you can get it up to 99.99% the speed of light, you will be able to slow the rust down by a Lorenz factor circa 70 times so 10 weeks for the price of 1 day.

Should easily make it to the weekend, though the fuel bill will be astronomical.
