Winter fettling, keeping boredom at bay.

Like the O/P I too have fitted new bits to drawers but to " Kitchen drawer front metal securing brackets " .. The brackets arrived by carrier at 1630 24 Dec ( eBay £12. 67 for four brackets .... as metal sided drawer , chipboard front securing brackets ), I didn't know they were available till a few days ago .

Previous efforts to obtain them for other drawers elsewhere in the kitchen five years ago proved fruitless so I made my own .

I fitted them this afternoon , realizing that the *u$ts who installed the original kitchen for me hadn't a clue about doing such a thing , despite them advertising on their van that they were kitchen fitting specialists .

Several 9mm long securing screws holding the drawer side brackets to the drawer fronts are still missing , the tiny drawer front height adjuster/ aligner blocks were missing on four drawer brackets out of ten brackets , where they were still in place they had been broken due to being forced into place .

So much for so called professional tradesmen from Swansea .

I welded yesterday, after doing the holiday cottage with the Mrs, just a few broken sheep and alpaca hurdles, all galvanised so it wasnt pretty, but sometimes needs must. Then walked to the pub, with “Clyde runs from sheep” our Welsh Collie.

I've got to work up the enthusiasm to do a chassis repair on my Sorento. When I removed the rotten tow bar one side left a tow bar bracket shaped hole where it had been.
I could have done it in the summer but as usual procrastination won and the MOT looms.

Front calipers sticking on the ZJ, I've had a pair of new calipers and carriers sat on the shelf for a few years so they are now fitted, just need a set of pads to finish it off

Grandson left the hot water running too long on our kitchen sink tap (which has always made the ceramic cartridge stick), he then wanged it off with a flourish, and it snapped. It was always rubbish, but this forced my hand. Off to B&Q (the only ones open in Carmarthen) and new tap and £55 later we're away. I did question the lengths of the tails on the tap - "they're all the standard length" came the reply - well they aren't the same standard as the old one... Which meant I fitted the original, 15 yr old ones for now.
So job for another day is to fit a thermo mixer valve on the hot circuit below the sink, sort the distances between the flexi ends, no more risk of someone getting scalded.

How did the MOT go?

It passed, MOT tester commented on how good the emissions were, especially for a 27yr old motor with 210k on the clock. It does have a new cat and 02 sensors which definitely helped

I thought I'd put up a quick post on what I'm fettling/fixing over this winter to stop me getting bored.
Day one after Christmas...
I've fixed the broken drawer runners on my bedroom chest of drawers but that involved moving the bed and twisting the drawers round to get them out. Nothings simple.
A quick fix and vacuum out all the dust and they are back together again but not before sorting out all the clothes, that got rid of at least 5 pairs of socks and neck warmers I don't need.
Next was the central heating cylinder stat that's been sticking on for a good few months giving us very hot tap water occasionally.
Naturally the new one is a different shape to the old so I had to cut a bit of insulation out but that seems ok now.
Then to put a rubber shroud over the shower pump pressure switch terminals after I replaced it with an adjustable one.
I'm now about to test a spare Stuart Turner pump I bought a year ago to see if it's any good before I replace the knackered hoses as they're bladdy expensive!
Coffee on the patio next before the sun goes down.

Always a good thing to keep the mind busy, assuming we are not on a downer mood.

Regarding the cylinder, apparently 60 degrees is the minimum temp to prevent legionnaires disease.

A day for play

Otherhalf took grandkids out with daughter and left me on my own

First fixed number plate on car (after a spoons breakfast) it was delaminating and as I was going through entrance barriers was not seeing the reg on way out so would not let the car out

2nd of the day

One of these pins that hold the drawer in was busted been like it for ages it was a round to it but never got done as time wise for welding but making up a new one welding setting up the welder with gas etc was a half hour job that never seamed to get done


Oh and new ssd drive put in laptop being reloaded as we speak all by 12 pm and still got the afternoon for myself I might have a play with something I want to do then

It was still 68° after I turned it down a bit last night so I've just wanged it right down to 50° ish, missus is in the shower now so I've boosted the water to see what happens once it's has a good burn.
I also turned the boiler pump up to max speed as it was somewhere in the middle before to help keep the heating quiet.

Well, good forecast for next few day at least, sick of sitting around drinking and eating so started on multiple unfinished projects on the Golf.

Power steering rack going back in with Volvo electro-hydraulic pump and controller, 02a cable change geabox, clutch and gearbox going in as well.

Will see how soon the motivation wears off lol.

At least it's on stands now and pointing in right direction..

Mostly been making a wall board for my various armoury of crimping and other motorcycle wiring tools.
Gets that particular storage drawer unclogged, and the kit immediately deployable.
It takes up very little space, is painted gloss white, and made a useful difference.

amoungst other things i started to make a welding table out of some 8mm plate i had, tomorrow get the mag drill out and drill and tap a load of holes to fix it with 10mm countersunk machine screws into the 40mm cast iron table below.

Not sure about winter fettling, but the winter ebaying is getting to me...just spent another 80 quid on stuff I mostly don't need, although will be handy
