They needed to be a patent above Audi prior the end of the yearSeems to be a genuine patent.
Which doesn't mean they will use it - but it stops anyone else creating them and selling them as dress-ups for the people that like shiny, but useless, things.
If it does become used, for most uses I reckon two holes drilled into the end of a bar, with two roll pins, dowels, etc shoved in to engage with the recesses will work just as well as anything more complicated.
We, and our competitors, routinely file patents for ideas we have, but have no time, or need, to develop, just to stop others doing it, or to make them find an alternative, hopefully more expensive, solution.
Also good to find the one missing word in their patent that allows us to drive the often mentioned coach and horses through it

That's hardly going to happen IMHO.
First of all they won't have enough recess or firm enough coupling surface with the the dedicated wrench/socket to apply enough torque to fasten the wheels .
And most importantly they'll stop stealing alloy rims but they'll start stealing these bolts.
And this would be a serious safety concern

A large enough tube welded on the bolt head and a big enough bolt welded on the tube .Doubleboost would have them off faster than it took to type this.
You'll be able to undo 99% of the stuck wheel bolts in the world using this technic
