Jumper battery pack

I am not sure I have got the correct name of this tool?

I have an interest in these jumper devices used by the breakdown guys to start vehicles with totally flat vehicles in winter.

I originally imagined the idea is a large battery with some sort of booster. However, there are ones online that seem very small, much smaller than a small car battery alone.

Any information/advice appreciated.Thank you.

I've one of these......there are various other options capacity/sizes .

Other members have them, seem to be the norm for glove box flat battery emergencies these days.

I bought a Lidil batt charger with a built in starter device.....when I needed it it worked without fault....

I bought a giant capacitor version back along. My logic being that I'm almost guaranteed to have something available that will charge up the capacitors and that with no batteries in it, it'll not be useless when I come to use it.

Not had to use it in anger yet but it swings an engine over pretty swiftly.

In 65 years of being involved in vehicles I think I've only had to use a jumper cable three or four times and that was in sub zero temps on 24 volt diesels in chilly temps Northern Germany . Even ether start needed a bit of extra battery capacity to get very cold engines moving . The jumper cable was a flat twin cable 24 foot or so long and about 2 " thick and as heavy as a sack of spuds.

When I was on recovery we were supplied with the generic large boost pack jobbies...they were generally junk as 2 good starts and needed charging again...when I moved to BCA on transporters doing WBAC and cinch work we were given NOCO jump packs and they would last a whole shift, maybe 7-8 starts on anything and everything...the one I had was rated to 3.5L but I used it to start a 4L jeep, an LS7 and a few larger diesels as well with no issues

There seems to be quite a bit of interest from these jumper battery packs.
Initially, I was interested in the Gooloo 6000 However, when I realised there were several different outputs of Gooloo it put me off. If I am interested in purchasing an item, nothing puts me off as much as confusing the customer.

So,I am currently looking at the NoCo.
Maybe, if I dig a bit deeper I may find that these devices are all made by the same manufacturer.

there are multiple different outputs of noco too. but the top end gooloo equals noco's top one for performance, but is cheaper than their cheapest.

Thank you for posting on this subject. Can you share the specific NoCo model that you had please?

it was a noco boost, think it was 2000A but cant remember exactly, was atleast 5 years ago when i was doing that work. it had the 'smart' system to prevent connecting the clamps wrong and im pretty sure you could use it in place of a battery with one of the modes. they werent cheap, about 180 quid IIRC but it was company issue

If you only expect to use it a couple of times before you can then be home and then recharge,surely for this low requirement a large tractor size battery will suffice,and considerably cheaper.

My noco started my 5.3 petrol when the battery was having a funny turn !!

I have a NoCo GX70, which is 2000 amp. It starts a 4 litre diesel tractor multiple times. Tractor has no functioning electrics and battery is about 20 years old and dead as a Dodo.

Also starts a 5.7 litre 6 cylinder diesel Unimog with no bother too
