I remember punching myself in the face using one of those Wolf Gutbuster drills. No clutch or any safety measures in the one I was using, and when it snatched boy did you know it.

I was handed one to use at the age of 16, 5 foot & a bit tall, about 8 stone I could hardly lift the thing, let alone control it!

I last used this valve-spring compressor in December 1981 on my 1975 mk3 cortina 1600.
Replaced the camshaft, lapped the valves, new seals, new head-gasket, new cambelt etc.
Cortina lasted me from '79 till 1988 with simple diy jobs on engine / clutch / brakes / cooling & bodywork.
I don't recall any electrical issues with it at all.
If only new cars could be so simple to work on...

Ball-joint puller was last used around 1986 again on Cortina.

Chain-splitter was used maybe 6 times between 1974 till 2017, when I finally busted it on the F650 Strada chain.

I got a cheapo evilbay Mig set that's never been out of the box it came in, ( if I do any bits of welding I just grab the stick inverter set and use that.) Got a full bottle of Argon mix that's not had a single whiff taken out of it since delivered about 3 years ago too..

put my self down onto the floor... sat up, and thought wheres the drill gone ??
still hanging above me on a 1/2 inch drill, with all the cord wrapped around it

I've one of the later Wolf 5/8" blue/gray plastic cased ones, still a hand full if they grab.
I was once drilling a hole in a Volvo 8 wheelers chassis for a tipping body ram pivot, the drill grabbed ended up pinning my hand between the handle and the chassis.
I couldn't let go of the trigger, had to get a workmate to unplug the drill, I had sore fingers/hand for weeks.

Purchased a mag drill soon afterwards......

yes they do and ive had a few cracks at back of my hands when its grabbed and hurt as well when its spun out of my hand grip and wipped around and cracked the back of them

i warned nephew about using it make sure you grip that drill and if it grabs it will have you he refused to touch it after i used it and it grabbed on me

Needed to remove the spare,which required the gas torch as I suspect it’s not been removed for many years,the bolt hangers had seized,attack with a chipping hammer reassured me the wheel was adequate as a spare,however the countersinks were irregular so out with the gutbuster to reface,though they’re not 45degrees!View attachment 523636

When the earth stops spinning it will be someone at the southpole with a wolf gutbuster that gets it started again.

We were in Cyprus years ago & were in a taxi going into town. There were road works & had to stop, idly watching, as you do. There was a guy there with a gut buster, the lead across the road & croc clipped into the power of a street light, suddenly the drill bit, he didn’t let go quick enough, it spun him round the cable wrapping tightly round his legs until he fell over. I would have loved a dash cam picture of it, taxi driver & I howled with laughter, watching it, you could see it building up to a disaster for the guy.

Bent deliberately,it’s the handlebars off my old 550 Honda!

Been lucky,though I’m pretty good controlling the break through bite. Before I had a mag drill,I used to use it working on a scaffold tower for steel erecting.

The only safety feature is once all excess cable is wrapped around the drill the continued rotation may pull the plug out of the socket and turn the drill off if your lucky
