Milwaulkee Brushed and Brushless Opinions

Screwfix have some nice sales on and one other sale due this week (was in the shop and lad gave me heads up showing me the shop signs he has ready to install for Dec deals)

Issue is one is the M18 brushed and other is brushless.

For home use only but there is a good price diff allowing me to buy the bare body grinder also on sale. Brushed model i got have look at and feels well built with, drill, screw and hammer settings. Could get to look at the brushless model as was not on display

On a side note my dad got this dewalt one yesterday on sale, huge discount but ill be honest the look and feel was more toy-ish than my older stanley fatmax

Personally I don't mind brushed motors if they're a lot cheaper....it's a well proven technology. I'm a diy user and I can't remember ever replacing brushes in tools...maybe the odd vacuum cleaner or washing machine!

Brushless technology is kind of cool how it works though. I guess with brushless batteries might run longer as the core is permanent magnets...but I don't know for sure.

Thats kind of my opinion too i have not worn out brushed drills. Batts are same on both models so yes i guess brushless might be easier on them.

Brushless motors are the standard these days. Few brands still use decent brushed motors as for the same cost they can be using brushless. Hence, brushed motors are generally the lower quality 775 sized off the shelf parts with a maximum around 200w.
Brushless will give 2-5x more power for the same size and far more efficient.

However for the same price, theres the Makita 40v brushless kit, is a significant improvement in power.
Some good offers on ebay with 20% off. I'm expectjng this tomorrow, £88 when normally £220.

I took a makita lawnmower apart recently....the brushless motors are pretty cool.

Basically it had about 16 strong permanent magnets in the inner core. Then 16 coils in the outer core. Rotating the field on the outer windings produces the rotation. Very controllable I would imagine.

These motors should be a great source of strong magnets in future I reckon.

All my M12 kit is Fuel (brushless).

I think brushless kit is more efficient and more powerful for a given motor size.

Some tools don’t really benefit from brushless but for drill and impact driver I’d go brushless. I wouldn’t go for either of those from Screwfix as they’re older models I.e. the drill latest version is 175nm compared to 62nm and the chuck is garbage on the Screwfix one too.
