Wagon

We need a larger wagon. We have a Transit open back at the moment, about 3m bed. Quite reliable. Always end up with stuff hanging over the front and/or back. Never a great way of regularly carrying heavy stuff.

I need something that the lads can drive on a normal car license, with as long a back/largest payload that we can get. Probably go for something second hand but in good mechanical/cosmetic nick.

Any recommendations on what we should be looking at?

Our Bri-mobile is a sprinter, 4m bed 3.5t. So no special licence required, even for the younger ones amongst us.

Its done well, not looked after, never serviced, 12 years old, 240,000miles.

Well past its best.

Id look into a Crafter/Sprinter.

In the old days a 5 or 7.5 tonne flatbed would have been the thing. I guess you need an operators license now though. Standard driving license for it (for me, anyway)

I missed grandfather rights by a year. My lads are mostly younger than me, so something on a normal license needed.

Trailers are alright, but youd need a big trailer to get a 7.5m length on.

we borrowed one to go get a bike very big cab 4m bed great but very different to our doblo and alot bigger than the transit we had before
the one we borrowed was an 08 van 124,000 miles and runs like a watch and pulls like a train. and the guy that owns it dosent give it alot of attention drive train wise
get a 311 tho as they are better on fuel than the other models we got the same MPG as our transit out of it

but can still drive tractors, rollers and tanks

In France they have brilliant steel stockholders wagons. Rigid body, one-seat cab, can get full lengths of steel on as the steel can go beside the cab. I've seen loads of them there, never here. Any wagon coachbuilders out there, it was my idea, right?

yep thats the one. the one we borrowed was a new shape but they've got the same engine. and the guy we borrowed one from has got a 55plate old shape as well no problems with the both of them very reliable
a local kitchen fitter bought an 02 one with about 90,000 on it and didn't service it at all and he sold it at 160,000 and didn't spend a penny on it
and a courier stopped with us the other day his had done 212,000 and went like a dream if we wanted a big van again it would be one of these not a transit

As much as I don't like American smugness, everytime I've been over to Factories I been working with, I can't help wonder why we haven't picked up on some of their ideas

you've got to remember you need:
operators
6 week check's
got to run a tacho
and you might posibly need to train workers sso they can drive it?
less MPG

dad was thinking about running a tipper but once we started to think about it we thought that a 3.5 tonner was alot easier

re the comment about a landy wit a trailer... i own a landy, and the other day went and sat my trailer test to 'allow' me to pull a trailer. expensive, and a bit daft i rekon...
