That's a good question, I think I have a clamp meter somewhere I can confirm with perhaps that's the problem it might actually only be doing 2/3rd of what it says.
The beam is cut like this one so it's not just flush flange to flange.
making excuses is not good in the welding trade sir.I mean you're looking at pictures taken with an old phone with bad lighting plus they're mid weld as I did multiple more beads after, they might not look good in your opinion but they're not meant to be Instagram worthy or require approval from across the Atlantic
I appreciate the feedback either way, most of them I have ground out and redone the pictures don't show the full day's story.
The ears to mount the cylinder will go the full width of the flange and extend down the web to the other flange so that should help stiffen and spread the load when splitting, as for lifting I've got some lengths of angle that'll add from tip to quick hitch pieces so that'll help reduce the force at the beam connection.
then extend them a foot along the top edge ,,, costs very little and adds lots ,,, basic design ,,, if you want strength / load spreading , triangulate ,, a triangle is an engineers friend ,,,, it does not fly so a wee bit of extra weight wont matter a jot

Unfortunately the back of the cylinder is wider than the beam hence the ears being welded to the perpendicular beam otherwise I would have made them longer as nothing to weld them to!
That's what I was hoping to do however the beam is 90mm wide and the cylinder is 140mm hence the plate extending along the web to compensate since I can't extend it forward into thin air I've also extended it backwards for the fully width of the perpendicular beam and removed that leaning plate since originally I was going to use 65x10 flat bar but now have some plate large enough to do the full width.
I initially did mostly straight for the root and following welds but the 2.5mm rods seemed to just ball up rather than flowing so weaved for the final top layers so it actually melted into the below layers. Everything below looks much better just top layer that looks like bird ****e.

Lol that's an excellent way to put it, yea previous owner used it for forestry work on islands off west coast Scotland hence spent most of its life parked by the sea or on an open boat so they did the classic lipstick on a pig before selling. Most of it is still good but some areas are pretty thin on the cab.
