The thing is, this isn’t a job site. It’s a social platform for admittedly mostly crusty old gits (self included) from an eclectic mix of backgrounds that come together to share thoughts and opinions on a wide range of topics, and very occasionally, on welding.

It’s great to see pictures of peoples work and projects but there needs to be at least some context and connection around that.

Guys and gals are on here mainly to chew fat (and commiserate on the tool bills) – and you will find them a friendly and very knowledgeable bunch like no other, but few are going to be in a position to employ somebody – and speaking personally, if I was going to, I’d want to know a lot more about you as a person than just a linkedin profile and some pictures.

Building connections is something that is equally, if not more important, than any technical skill you’ll ever acquire, and that’s coming from a cynical introvert who avoids social interaction where possible.
So join in and get to know and be know, and by all means showcase what you are doing and the skills you have – but perhaps leave the CV on indeed.

was not so much asking directly for a job, but seeking any general suggestions
and/or ideas.

It might not be a job site, but it does seem to be a reasonably active forum for an engineering discipline. From what I've seen with forums, there a place where your more likely to find people that have a genuine interest in the subject, ranging from young to more experienced, from daily contributors to those dropping in occasionally. Seems like it could be a more focused and relevant audience to try and reach. You never know who might be reading the forum, or who they know.

The thought with the pictures was, theres hopefully enough of them from each job to give it a bit of context. A nice easy visual thing to try and catch peoples interest to then go further and find out more with a look at the CV, where there is a better connection.

For me I think its probably better to leave getting to know someone a lot better, to offline.

Theres probably not much I can contribute with, unless you want some thoughts on a fridge problem then I might become useful.

It would have been better if you had posted a bit on an introduction first that's all. Forum etiquette and all that
I am sure you could contribute a lot. Anyway good luck. Surely with the mad rush for stupid heat pumps your skills would be very much needed. Plenty of companies looking for installers all over the UK.

The pics are great - but they don't really explain what you've done - and I think a sentence or two against each would have improved them (IMHO) to the point of helping understand what your involvement actually was?

Perhaps if you can contribute to other topics, people can get to understand a bit more about your capability - although unfortunately, I doubt this is the best place for job-hunting.

The first two pictures are from changing the hydraulic hoses on the main cylinder of a canal lock gate.
Next three are from some servicing the refrigeration unit on a truck, it uses a belt driven generator on the trucks engine.
Next five are the drive end of a chain conveyor, having its gearbox stripped, new bearings and seals, the box side panels replaced and new metal welded to the hopper.
Last one is not very good, but shows a industrial refrigeration plantroom on a day pressure relief valves were being replaced.
